Lab Facilities
The Innovation Lab at Hegan Lane Business Park in Chico is a proving ground for new products and a meeting place for North State innovators. It also serves as the physical anchor for the North State iHub.
Smart Board Room
The Smart Board Room is equipped with state-of-art technology to connect with global clients for meetings and presentations. A highlight is the smart board, which combines traditional presentation technology with Internet access and touch screen capabilities. Features include:
- Smart board
- Video conferencing
- Audio conferencing
- Sound system
- Seats up to 50 people
Incubator tenants have free access to the Smart Board Room. It can also be rented by businesses and community organizations.
Incubator Space
Emerging growth companies can share ideas as well as office supplies in the Innovation Lab’s 9,600 s.f. incubator space. It includes up to 8 commercial spaces and a special project area for short-term projects. The companies share office amenities and on-site assistance. Additionally, incubator tenants have access to equipment in the Fab Lab.
Current occupants include:
- Springboard Biodiesel – Converting vegetable oil to biodiesel
- Green Polymer Technologies Inc. (GPT) – Product testing
- Student Entrepreneurs – Products emerging out of CSU, Chico include a vertical wheelchair and sustainable drywall
Fab Lab
The Fab Lab mirrors the Silicon Valley practice of providing cooperative workspace for tech workers to build items for business or pleasure. In the tradition of garage-based start-ups, fabrication begets invention. Google Workshops may be the best known of these ventures.
The Fab Lab offers Innovation Lab members access to a small machine shop with an array of practical tools to develop prototypes and test products.
